- A flair for creative expression
- A keen ability to listen, empathize, and connect with kids
- A passion to inspire and persuade
Born in Jamaica, Barbara Ann Elder currently resides in Orlando, Florida, near her two precious grandchildren.
A former teacher and High School principal, Barbara earned her Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) degree in French and Spanish, majoring in Linguistics. While at university, her summers were spent traveling and studying in Switzerland, France, and Mexico.
In addition, she holds a Diploma in Writing for Children & Teens from the Institute of Children’s Literature in Connecticut and is an award-winning alumna of Miriam Laundry’s Publishing Mastermind.
Barbara is also a member of the Professional Writers’ Alliance (PWA).

Creative, expressive writing has always been her passion, and she fondly recalls writing adventure stories, plays and poems from the age of 8 as part of her little cousin club, the Secret Four (SIV). She has been writing stories ever since.
Barbara seeks to inspire, entertain and empower kids to believe in themselves, and to overcome difficulties with courage and determination.
Her first published work was a children’s book on epilepsy … “Way to Go Flash … The Adventures of a Horse Who Would Never Say Never!” This project was a collaboration with the Jamaica Epilepsy Association … the intended goal being to promote an understanding and acceptance of a condition shrouded in myth and superstition.
Fast forward a few years, and she has now found her ideal inspiration … her spunky granddaughter, whose entertaining adventures seem tailor-made for kids’ stories!
Barbara has no doubt that her 1-year-old grandson will follow suit in no time, and provide a second source of inspiration for fun, engaging stories to delight young readers for years to come.

Applause for Sniffle, Snuffle…Blow!

This heartwarming children’s book beautifully captures the struggles and triumphs of a little girl who just can’t seem to blow her nose properly. With the loving guidance of her grandmother, the story is filled with gentle humor and valuable lessons on patience, persistence, and the joy of learning new things. With colorful illustrations and engaging writing for young readers, it emphasizes the importance of family bonds and overcoming small challenges with care and support.
This book is absolutely delightful! The double meaning of “shut your mouth” is fun and the recipe for slime is a nice touch. I had never considered the mechanics involved in blowing one’s nose before, but of course it makes sense that an open mouth will lead to a failed–not to mention, messy–deployment. I will likely think of this now EVERY time I blow my nose!

This is a fun and entertaining story that shows how learning to blow your nose can be challenging but also achievable with a few helpful tips from Grandma! Children will love the beautiful illustrations that help bring the story to life which also incorporates the fun activity of making slime with friends (recipe included). A sweet story that warms the heart by showing the special bond between a little girl and her Grandma and the satisfaction of mastering the skill of blowing your nose!

…This charming story will resonate with early elementary school-aged students, especially those who have not yet mastered the art of blowing their nose. Written in an accessible, direct style, the narrative introduces readers to Jessica and her predicament in a way that is endearing and approachable...
Mary R. Lanni, Goodreads
Barbara Ann Elder’s Sniffle, Snuffle … Blow! is enjoyable, charming, and skillfully written. Each page features vibrant illustrations by Sally Garland. I can relate to Jessica because I also have a runny nose and sneeze uncontrollably whenever the weather changes, or just from a bit of dust in the air. It’s quite difficult to deal with a sensitive nose, especially for a kid. Children who are still learning how to blow their noses would benefit from this book. I’m happy to have found this sweet story because my younger siblings also have difficulties, and I find that teaching them how to do it can be challenging.
It’s a perfect book for parents to read together with their children. I also found it funny how Jessica described her difficulties to her grandmother; fortunately, her grandmother understood exactly what she was talking about. The conclusion includes slime-making advice, which I thought was fantastic. The narrative piqued my curiosity about the slime cakes the kids were making, and the suggestion at the end made it much more intriguing. I had no idea how to produce slime. It was enjoyable to read. Excellent work!
